Fondant icing embossing stamps are becoming a popular item in our ever-increasing product range.
It’s no surprise to be honest given that fondant icing has become so popular. In contrast to the traditional rock hard, royal icing layered over marzipan, fondant is so much more versatile. As this Cake Made blog says: ‘With its malleable structure, smooth texture, and easy transportability, it is hard to imagine a time without fondant in the world of cakery…’
Fondant icing comes ready-to-roll in a variety of colours. But you can make your own if you so wish. Here’s a recipe from the patron saint of cooking, Delia Smith. If ever you’re struggling with something in the kitchen simply ask yourself: ‘what would Delia do?’ That’s my advice!
In its earliest development stages, fondant dates back to the 1500s. While we’ve not been fondant fiddling for that long we have played around with embossing slogans and stamps for around a year. Yep as usual we’re late to the party – but hey, what’s new? So, we figured now is a good time to do some fondant chat.

Fondant baking products
The baking market is awash with products with which to make the most of fondant icing. For starter there are embossing sheets a plenty – sometimes called pattern presses or impression mats.
Then there’s the specific round embossers that you’ll see a lot. Such fondant icing embossing stamps are primarily used as cupcake toppers. And most of our stamp embossers fall into that category.

What to do if you don’t have an embossing fondant stamp
It’s not one bit vital to have an embosser to make a pattern. You could always press (see what I did there?!) into service the ends of your icing tips, or a ruler/pizza cutter to make circles and stripes. Or you could use small cookie cutters with a light touch to make a pattern.
But what if you want something non-standard?
If you’re looking for something special – say for instance Father’s Day, Halloween or a birthday then there are tons of options out there. Not forgetting SED HQ! #Obvs #shamelessplug Here’s a handy link to our on-line shop where you can browse cookie cutters and fondant icing embossing stamps to your baking heart’s content.
And as you can see from the video below they’re dead easy to use.
All you have to do is:
- Roll your fondant out
- Place your stamp down
- Roll over that with a rolling pin
- And then ping up the stamp
- Cut around the indented fondant icing and voila – there’s your stamp!
