Can it be that time of year already? Yes, it can and bunnies all round it is. Easter is almost upon us and, as we all know, the largesse of the Easter Bunny* isn’t restricted to eggs. Oh no! Cookies and cupcakes are in the bunny’s basket too!
Right then star bakers everywhere, Mothering Sunday is on the horizon. And to what do our first thoughts turn regarding Mothering Sunday gifts? It is of course the ubiquitous flowers and chocolates. Nothing wrong with either of those of course. They both form part of a long and noble tradition of gift giving stemming from the very origins of the British Mothering Sunday. *
I’ve written before about mental health and the positive effect baking can have. In particular in the run up to Christmas. During this time everything is meant to be as bright and sparkling as the fairy lights. But of course, for a multitude of reasons – it so often isn’t for so many people. For me, during the Christmas period, baking is a real release from the festive frenzy. Indeed, I’m going to try out the Sainsbury’s Christmas cake that you see below.

Yep, I know, you’ve not even put your flip flops away yet. Yet here we dribbling on about Hallowe’en. But we know our bakers and they like to plan ahead. Anyway, just you wait, next week it’ll be Christmas! Ha! Evil cackle!
